Sturgeon Bay is located on the Door County peninsula approximately 45 miles northeast of Green Bay. Named Wisconsin's friendliest small town, Sturgeon Bay is the county seat and the only city on the peninsula. With a 2000 census population of 9,437, the City covers approximately 4,000 acres with 80 miles of streets and 11 parks. Sturgeon Bay is renowned for its high quality of life, traditional downtown, maritime industries, aquatic resources and recreational opportunities, and tourism amenities. Sturgeon Bay has a charming downtown with many unique shops, galleries, restaurants, and bed and breakfast inns. Potawatomi State Park is a popular destination for vacationers. Located on the waters of Sturgeon Bay, the park offers biking and hiking trails and cross-country ski and snowmobile trails. The observation tower provides a view of Sawyer Harbor that will take your breath away. Many vacationers enjoy fishing the waters of Sturgeon Bay. Trophy fish include walleye, northern pike, lake trout and salmon. Many local guides can put you right over a shipwreck to fish for smallmouth bass. Sturgeon Bay's farmers' market provides a wide variety of fresh produce and handmade crafts. The popular market is held downtown every Saturday morning in late June through October.
