Location Overview

Gilbert Lake State Park is located in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains, north of Oneonta, New York and within the town of New Lisbon. The park has three ponds which lie in wooded, hilly terrain in the foothills of the Catskills. In addition to cabins and campsites, the park has more than 12 miles of interconnecting trails for hikers, skiers, snowmobilers and snowshoers.

The park offers a beach, a boat launch and boat rentals, cabins, a campground, disk golf, hunting and fishing, hiking and biking, ice skating, picnic tables and pavilions, a museum, a nature trail, a playground, recreation programs, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing, and a food concession.

Location:

  • Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse: Thruway (I-90) east to exit 30, Herkimer; Rt.5S west to Rte.51 south. Left on County Rt.12, follow signs four miles to park entrance.
  • Albany: I-88 west to Rt.205 (exit 13); Rt.205 north to Laurens; county Rt.12 west to park entrance.
  • New York: Thruway (I-87) to exit 21 (Hudson-Catskill); Rt.23 west to Oneonta; Rt.205 to Laurens; County Rt.12 to park entrance.

Seasons/Operating Hours:
Park is open year-round. Deer hunting, bow only, is permitted in the park during gun season.

Restrictions:
Household pets only; caged or on a leash not more than 6 feet. Not allowed in the bathing areas.
