Camp Hero State Park is a former a military base located at Montauk Point on the eastern tip of Long Island, New York. The park contains 415 acres of diverse landscape that includes heavily wooded areas, freshwater wetlands, ocean vistas, dramatic bluffs, a long expanse of beachfront along the Atlantic Ocean, and a historic military installation. Surfing is also available with a permit. The undisturbed environment at Camp Hero shelters abundant wildlife and a large variety of birds. Birders have ample opportunities to make many varied sightings here in a day. There are also many other animals that dwell within the temperate woodlands. The former military base located at the park is registered as a National Historic Site.
