Azalea State Reserve is a 30 acre reserve for the western azalea (Rhododendron occidentale). Located in Humboldt County, California many visitors stop each spring to view the abundance of pink and white blossoms. The best time to visit is in April and May when the azaleas are in full bloom. There are many nearby attractions including Trinidad State Beach, Patrick’s Point State Park, and Ft. Humboldt State Historic Park.
The reserve offers a short self-guided nature trail that focuses on the plants of the north coast area. Be sure to plan your visit for April or May when azaleas are in bloom.
A grassy picnic area is available in addition to a 1-mile nature trail. Seasons/Operating Hours: Day use only from sunrise to sunset. Location: 5 miles north of Arcata, take the McKinleyville exit off of Highway 101. Drive 2 miles east on North Bank Road and turn left into the reserve.
